The 5th European Go Grand Slam Tournament, also called Yike Cup, was held 25th - 28th April in Berlin, Germany.
For those who are not familiar with the Grand Slam, let me explain in a few words what it is. Grand Slam is the most prestigious tournament in Europe with the winner's prize € 10,000. 12 selected players are qualified to participate. All EGF professionals are automatically qualified. For the rest of the players there are several ways to join, including a qualification tournament. Grand Slam is the vital part of the European Grand Prix and the European Professional system.  Read more...

Great news for the participants of the 48th Amsterdam International Go Tournament (AIGT)! DeepMind ambassador Fan Hui 2p will be present at the event and will present a lecture about AlphaGo. The AIGT is an EGF Bonus Point Tournament (level B) and will take place from 30th of May until 2nd of June 2019. The tournament holds a total prize money of €2125.  Read more...

Turkey is one of the most active go countries in Europe, with a large base of players and enthusiastic organisers.
In the weekend of 2-3 February both the Turkish Play-Off Tournament and the Turkish Women's Go Championship took place in İstanbul.
Tuğkan Eren (2 dan) and Birand Adal (2 dan) earned the right to represent Turkey at the KPMC and the WAGC respectively. Hülya Çolak (1 kyu) became Turkish women's champion for the second time, edging out defending champion Seval Altuğ (1 dan).  Read more...

At the beginning of December, the multilingual Go book project was launched!
The goal of the project is to create a Go book that will be translated to as many languages as possible, in order to provide an additional way to promote and spread Go in countries that do not have a Go tradition and their native language is not English.

On Saturday 8 December the national Pair Go Championship of the Netherlands took place in the European Go Cultural Centre. A total of eleven pairs fought for the title of Dutch pair go champions.
Yvonne Roelofs (4 kyu) and Michiel Eijkhout (5 dan) won all four matches and defended their title of 2017.  Read more...

The European Female Go Championship 2018 took place in Helsinki (Finland) on 8th-9th September. With 29 participants from 9 countries, it was one of the largest European female championships, and as 16 were dan players, also the strongest one.  Read more...
