The European Championship in Garmisch Partenkirchen was played as an international tournament. For the European Championship only the European players were eligible and only the games among these players were taken into consideration. It was stipulated that, if last years champion and another player place first with equal scores, the champion would keep his title without any play-off. As a consequence Wichard von Alvensleben retained his title. For the Open tournament a play-off was necessary between von Alvensleben and Dueball. This game was won by Deuball (+1.5 points).
