An opportunity to turn up and try your best always sounds exciting. The opportunity to try your best and then to travel to China to represent Europe sounds even better, doesn’t it? Therefore, here it is:

 A Call For Strong Young Players

Background: even though it has been held only twice so far, Quzhou Lanke Cup International Friendly Children Amateur Weiqi Invitational Tournament quickly became popular and loved by young players. This year the friendly competition is planned to be turned into a serious fight, a  “Championship”! With this transformation, Europe was awarded more qualifying spots compared to previous years. And we are looking to construct a multi-national team of strong European youth players. This team will be selected through the selection tournament taking place during the European Go Congress 2025 in Warsaw.

The selection tournament's details are below

Date: July 23, 2025
Place: European Go Congress 2025, Warsaw, Poland
Eligibility: young players aged between 7 and 18 in October 2025, minimum rank - 1 dan
Number of players: maximum 12. If more than 12 are registered, top 12 will be qualified to participate based on the EGD ranking of July 14, 2025
System: 3-round tournament to follow the latest Weiqi competition rules approved by the Chinese Weiqi Association, and the Black subtracts 3¾ stones. Exact system will be defined once the exact number of players will be known.
Registration deadline: July 14, 2025

As a result, four players will be selected for the international EGF teams to travel to Quzhou, China, to represent Europe in October 2025. Also reserve players will be determined.

For the strongest players who might compete in the European Championship, there is no need to worry - if this is the case, certain flexibility in scheduling rounds might be afforded, so there is no need to “choose” between events. Understanding the technical and financial details of the culmination - the 3rd Quzhou Lanke Cup International Friendly Children Amateur Weiqi Invitational Tournament - are important when registering. The final details of this year’s edition are not public yet, but learning from past experience might be a good strategy. Selected players can expect at least partial cover of airfare and accommodation expenses. In addition - last year there were significant monetary prizes for places 1 through 6.
