Children Tournament

An over enthusiastic me, freely volunteered to organize the organize the children´s tournament for this years Congress.
I got lucky as Klaus Petri also volunteered to help me with the pairings and together we managed to create a lovely afternoon for over thirty children.
at the start children
and parents listen carefully to ...

Klaus Petri (the handsome one in the orange t-shirt) who volunteered to be the referee of this tournament

For the sake of the parents we had to change the time-setting from 30 minutes sudden death to 20 minutes instead, so that the younger children could have some dinner and get to bed in time.

Even though we started almost half an hour later than we had planned to, because of some problems at the start and some last minute entries (because of course all the children have to play). we still managed to finish on schedule thanks to the speed with which the children played.

And just like in every children´s tournament there was the big Ying-Yang challenge for us as organizers...
Silence reigned when they played and noise ruled when we were pairing the next round.

concentration
what is my opponent thinking
What did you play?

And for me the best thing was seeing a lot of happy children playing and meeting new friends.

Of course in the end all children were happy to get a small prize, in the form of some chocolates.
So regardless of the number of victories they were able to get enough chocolates to compensate for their losses in the tournament.

The final results gave us the following winners in the different sections.

1. Zihan Yin 5d China (4 out of 4)
2. Choi Su-gyeom 6d Korea (3 out of 4)
3. Chen Tianyi 1d Cina (2 out of 4)

Best European: Dragos Boldenau 1d Romania (2 out of 4) taking the 4th place in the tournament.
Best player under 12 years was Matheo Langer 1k from France (3 out of 4)
Best female was Anna Melnyk 5k from the Ukraine (3 out of 4)

Also we had a prize for the 2 youngest players (male and female) of the tournament.
