For the first time ever, the World Youth Goe Championship took place in Germany. It was the 35th Championship of its kind, and it was for the seventh time in Europe.

Alltogether 22 players from East and South East Asia, America and Europe played five rounds in two categories Under-16 and Under-12, and the best four played out the championship in semifinals and finals. The winners of both sections came from China: Lǐ Zéruì (1p, Under-16) and Xiào Zébīn (6d, Under-12). During the medieval farewell banquet, both winners were knighted by the jester of the castle.
