Hungarian Open 2024 summary

Last weekend, we held the last Bonus tournament of the year in Budapest. The tournament attracted entries from many countries, with a record field of 75 players, and there were enough competitors in each section to make for a close battle.

Stanislaw Frejlak (PL) 1p against Dominik Bővíz (HU) 6d

Dominik Bővíz 6d versus Yuze Xing (DE) 6d

No one on the top boards went undefeated, so it was really exciting to see how it would turn out.
In particular, the first day of the tournament brought a lot of surprises: Yuze Xing 6d, a young player from Germany, won against Stanislaw Frejlak 1p, Dominik Bővíz 6d won against Pál Balogh 7d, while Benjamin Dréan-Guénaïzia 7d had suffered a double loss to Csaba Mérő 6d and Pál Balogh 7d, which made the tournament very interesting.

An impressive game by Yuze, who gave a masterly display in the second half of the game, not giving a single chance of a comeback to Stanislaw.

Benjamin Dréan-Guénaïzia (FR) 7d against Pál Balogh (HU) 7d

Csaba Mérő (HU) 6d against Yuze 6d
Other tables, where fights were happening as well!

In the end, Csaba and Pál beat Yuze, and Stanislaw beat Csaba and Pál, and Benjamin beat Dominik, which made it so that Stanislaw Frejlak 1P won the event, qualifying for the Grand Prix Finale.
Second place went to Csaba Mérő 7D and third to Yuze Xing 6D.

Stanislaw, Csaba, Benjamin, Pál, Yuze and Ryan Zhang (GB) 4d, who took the 6th place with 4/5!

Congratulations to all the players and the organizing team from the Hungarian Go association for such a nice event!

Good report, thank you.
I noticed a kind of "Korean" pairing, Zhang 6th place played only weak opponents, he should get a top player in 4th and 5th round. Which program was used?

According to https://www.eurogofed.org/egf/toursysrules.htm it could only have been 1 of 4 programs. One of these is too out of date to be obtained, one is not seen outside the UK, so that leaves just two possiblities.
