Call for participants - The 10th annual World Collegiate WEIQI Championship, 7-13 July

The 10th annual World Collegiate WEIQI Championship will take place in Fudan University in Shanghai, China, on July 7-13. It is organized by the Chinese Weiqi Association, Shanghai Administration of Sports, Fudan University Shanghai, Ing Chang-Ki WEICHI Educational Foundation.
 
14 players - up to PhD students - from Europe are invited to participate.
Organisers will provide accommodation, insurance and food, and up to 1000$ of help for transportation.

The Annual World Collegiate WEICHI Championship aims to provide a platform for university Weiqi players worldwide to enhance their skills and foster friendships. This year, the event is including several divisions and welcomes 150 players from all-over the world.

For eligibility criteria, please refer to the below regulations point VI.

If you are interested, please contact your national Go Federation/Association to express your interest.
The EGF will make a selection based on ranking, previous student championship achievements and country-representation.
The deadline for expression of interest is April 8th at 2 PM CEST.
If you're selected, you will receive a link to formally apply to the event.

IV. Competition Date and Venue
Date: July 7–13, 2026
Venue: Fudan University, Shanghai, China

V. Participation Methods
The competition will adopt a combination of recommendation and invitation, with a total of 150 participants.

School Weiqi players from international regions and the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions of China will be recommended by Weiqi organizations worldwide and invited after review by the organizing committee.

School Weiqi players from China (excluding the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions) will be directly invited by the organizing committee.

VI. Player Eligibility
University students (including junior college students, undergraduate students, master's students, and doctoral students) who have enrolled and hold student status before July 2026. Graduates of 2026 are also eligible to participate.

The competition is limited to amateur players (excluding retired professionals).
Professional players from Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia are specially invited to participate.

The competition initially has three groups: Championship Group, Excellence Group, and Friendship Group.The specific grouping method will be determined based on registration conditions.

VII. Competition Format
The latest Weiqi competition rules approved by the Chinese Weiqi Association shall apply, with the black side giving 33/4 stones as compensation.
Detailed competition rules will be announced separately in supplementary regulations.

VIII. Registration Instructions
[The EGF will send selected players, who apply through their National Go Federation/Association, a link to a form, to formally apply by mid-April, applications will be reviewed by the organizers and will get an answer by the end of the month] 

All applicants should purchase their air tickets only after completing the qualification review by the Organizing Committee and receiving the official notification from the Organizing Committee.

IX. Ranking and Awards
The top 6 players in each group will receive trophies, award certificates, and prizes.
All participanting players will receive commemorative medals and souvenirs.

X. Player Instructions
The organizing committee will provide transportation subsidies of varying amounts to the players from different regions (based on the location of the school where players are enrolled, and the subsidies will be distributed after the players check in).The subsidy standards are as follows:

Players from universities in Europe and the Americas: $1,000 USD/person;
Players from universities in non-European/American international regions, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions of China: $300 USD/person;
Players from universities in China outside Shanghai (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions of China): RMB 500/person;
Players from universities in Shanghai (including international students in Shanghai): RMB 150/person

Accommodation, meals, and insurance expenses from registration to departure will be covered by the organizing committee.


Players from international and the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan regions of China must send their round-trip itinerary to the organizing committee by June 15, 2026; failure to do so will be considered a waiver of participation.

Players must sign the " Liability Waiver for the 10th Annual World Collegiate WEIQI Championship" before the competition.

Players are obliged to participate in all activities of the event and may not leave midway.
 
XI. Other Matters
Matters not covered will be notified separately. The organizing committee reserves the right to interpret these competition regulations.
