The 1st European Go Congress

28.07.1957-11.08.1957, Cuxhaven, West Germany

This first congress was developed from the annual German Go Congress. A handicap tournament was won by Schilp on tie-break from B.Rueger.

The player with the highest "Class" after the tournament was the first European Champion. This was Fritz Dueball from West Germany (class 16). Next, in class 17, were John and Grebe.

The first European Go Congress is also recorded sometimes as being in Germany in 1938, also won by Dueball.
