The 7th European Go Congress

04.08.1963-18.08.1963, Barsinghausen, West Germany

The European Congress in Barsinghausen (near Hannover) set a new record for number of participants, including players from Taiwan and Korea for the first time. The Congress was well organized and the weather showed its face from the good side.

The tournament for the European Championship had eight participants.
Three people finished first:
Wichard von Alvensleben (Göttingen), Jürgen Mattern (Berlin) and Max Rebattu (Amstelveen).
Based on the then rules, Von Alvensleben retained his European title.

65 players were in the general tournament and Horst Sufhoff won the Lightning Tournament.
