European Student Go Championship 2010

European Student Go Championship 10/09/10-12/09/10

The sixth European Student Go Championships was held in at Darmstadt, Germany. There were 22 students from, unfortunately, only six countries. Nevertheless, the weather was brilliant, the location was great and it is believed a good time was had by everybody. Drinks and snacks were provided for the players free of charge. Yoon Young Sun was present, playing simuls on Friday, giving a lecture on Saturday, live commentating one game per round on the internet and reviewing games for the players.

Slightly surprisingly, the by far best rated player, Benjamin Teuber, came second, behind maths student Matthias Terwey from Münster, resulting in a 1-2 for Germany. Third place was shared between Oiva Moisio from Tampere (Finland) and William Brooks from Cambridge (UK).

Here are the satistics on the subjects being studied. 14 students study maths, computing or computer related subjects; 4 students study East Asia related subjects, such as Japanology; the remaining four students study Geoscience, Law, Social Sciences and Molecular Biology.
