The Vienna International Tournament took place on the 17th and 18th of June in the city's outskirts at one of Vienna's schools for tourism. Do you think that a beautiful Saturday would be enough to persuade the bravest of go players to go to the lake or next to the Danube to swim instead of coming to the go tournament? Only fools maybe! Over 60 players came to Vienna from all over Europe and didn't let themselves blinded by the beautiful illusion of summer. (And a good decision it was, since the rain decided to show them fools). The tournament started with the hope of the strong players to beat Kim Seong-Jin, who has been defeated only by Oh Chi Min since his arrival in Europe. Would anyone be successful?   Read more...

This year's tournament that will end a European go player's amateur career began this week in Vienna, Austria. 16 players took part in this first stage of the tournament, called the European Pro qualification 2017. The first 3 rounds have been played on the 15th and 16th June in a double-knock-out system. The 8 players qualified after this first stage will be playing a knock-out tournament in July in Pardubice to decide the new European Champion. The 38th World Amateur Go Championship, held at Sheraton Hotel in Guiyang, China from 2 to 9 June, concluded with the flawless victory of the Chinese representative Bai Baoxiang 8d.
This year, the competition for the runner-up places was extremely close. No one scored 7 victories, so the SOS tiebreaker played a big role in the distribution of the following places.  Read more...

The Amsterdam International Go Tournament took place on the long sunny weekend of 25-28th May. The main event, which was happening this year for the 60th time, attracted 83 players from 18 countries, including the United States. In this article, Marika Dubiel (2d, the Netherlands) shares a go diary, with contributions from a selection of the top dan players who experienced the tournament this year: Chi-Min Oh (7d, France), Jonas Welticke (6d, Germany), Dominik Boviz (6d, Hungary) and Sinan Depov (5d).

Croatian Go Association (HIGOU) is performing a go project in several schools in different cities of Croatia. The project name is “Go – the game that teaches us to think”. The partners are two primary schools (Zagreb and Lipovljani), two secondary schools (Zagreb and Kutina), one special education center (Velika Gorica), one kindergarten (Zagreb) and the City of Kutina. The project is financed for one school year (ending in August 2017) by Croatian Ministry of Science and Education and co-financed by the City of Kutina.
