The second European Youth Team Championship finished on 16th of January. This year, twelve teams from 15 countries took part. Newcomers were Switzerland and Austria who joined forces with the Italian team. After four rounds, the decision on the top was as narrow as possible: last year's champion, Russia, had looked like the sure winner, having defeated Ukraine 4-1, France 5-0 and the strong Romania team 4-1. In the very last round, however, Russia lost 2-3 against Germany. Since Germany had lost before against Romania, at the end four teams were tied with three victories each. Only after counting board points and the opponents' score, the order of the teams became clear: Russia A again came in first, Romania second, Germany third and Russia B fourth.
The prizes for the three top teams will be awarded at the European Youth Championship in Serbia in March.
