In 1992, the European Go Cultural Centre (EGCC) was founded in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, with the financial aid of Kaoru Iwamoto 9p and the Nihon Ki-in.

In 2017, the EGCC celebrates its 25th anniversary. To commemorate this milestone, the centre organises a special Anniversary Go Tournament in the weekend of 21-22 October!   Read more...

To know what participants liked (and didn’t like) about this year’s European Go Congress, we conducted a little survey, on which around 90 people participated.

We now know that the congress was really well received! Nearly half (43%) of the participants who had already taken part in other European Go Congress thought that this year's was the best! Overall grade for this: 1.5 (1=very good, 2=good, 3=not so good, 4=bad).  Read more...

The European Women's Go Championship took place this year on the 19-20th of August in Odessa, Ukraine. It's nice to see that Ukraine is starting to be very active when it comes to organizing European championships. In addition to this year's European Women Go Championship, Ukraine will organize the European Youth Go Championship, which is perhaps the most popular European competition after the European Go Championship.

Following the first week, ruthless battles on go boards and the feast of friendship amongst hundreds of go enthusiasts continued to occupy the peaceful mountain village of Oberhof. This year's general meeting didn't see any contested votes, apart from the one for the selection of the host of the youth championship in 2019. Moscow would get it by a small margin over the Croatian proposal. The board members are elected only every three years, so the next election will be in 2018. Also the selection of the congress didn't take place because the members accepted the proposal of the german federation to select the congress only two years in advance.  Read more...

The European Go Congress is for many European go players the year's highlight go event. A go congress typically consists of playing go for two weeks, watching go lessons, meeting new and old friends and visiting new places. Its location changes every year from Western to Eastern and from Northern to Southern Europe. This year's congress is taking place in Oberhof, Germany between the 21st of July and the 6th of August.  Read more...
