In the week before Christmas, a group of almost 40 people gathered in Kyllburg in the picturesque German Eifel, for 4 days of go-lessons and games. The organizer was Inseong Hwang, who schedules this Winter Camp every year in addition to running the Yunguseng Dojang (www.yunguseng.com), his successful internet go school.

The content of the Winter Camp is similar to one month of the online Yunguseng Dojang. Participants play five games against each other, every game is reviewed in detail by one of the teachers, and between games various topics are explained in lectures.  Read more...

The penultimate event in the Czech tournament calendar for 2017, the Czech Women's Championship, took place at the same location as the Go Baron tournament - café Do Větru - in the first weekend of December (2. - 3. 12.). The most prestigious title tournament in Czech Go, the Go Baron, was held in the last weekend of November, 24-26. The top Czech players of today and of yesteryear were invited for the preliminary tournament. Only 12 players have the possibility to challenge for the Go Baron title. The tournament is generously sponsored by its founder and director Ing. Josef Němec. The prize pool is three gold ounces, i.e. more than 3500€, based on the current price of gold.  Read more...

The Russian Championship was held from 13 to 18 November 2017 in St. Petersburg, in the familiar Azimut Hotel that also hosted, amongst others, the EGC 2016. The favourite, Ilja Shikshin 1p, won the tournament, albeit not without difficulties.  Read more...

The Shanglü Cup is China’s biggest amateur tournament. It is hosted by the Hangzhou Qiyuan, and held in their huge 34 floor building, which combines a go school with a hotel. From Friday 20 to Sunday 22 October the European Go Cultural Centre in Amstelveen organised several events in celebration of their 25th anniversary. One of those events was the EGCC Anniversary Tournament, which was dominated by German resident Seong-jin Kim 8d. In a field of 87 players from 15 different countries, of which no less than 38 were dan players, Korean-born Kim defeated all opposition. Second place was claimed by Artem Kachanovskyi 1p and third place went to Lukáš Podpěra 7d.  Read more...
