The 1st European Grand Prix Finale Tournament was held from the 18th to 21st January 2018 in Olomouc, Czech Republic. 16 top European players, who had qualified through 2017's Bonus Point Tournaments measured their strengths in go in a new, attractive tournament system designed by the EGF. The qualification tournament for the 2018 Globis Cup for players up to 20 years old has changed

Due to the necessity to nominate an EGF representative for the 2018 Globis Cup by the end of February at the latest, which we learned about quite late, we cannot make the normal selection of the winner of the EYGC 2018, U20 section. Therefore, under severe time pressure, we decided to use the opportunity that many young and strong European players participate in the EGF Academy training camp in Vatra Dornei, Romania, 5th-11th of February, and run a qualification tournament during that camp. The aim of this article is to summarize the main international go events which are organized in the Czech Republic and to provide an overview of each. The tournaments are listed in calendar order. Unless stated otherwise, you can expect the time control to be 60 minutes main time, then 3 x 30 sec per move. Pointed out are interesting possibilities for players such as low cost overnight sleeping at the site, social evening etc..

In-seong’s Winter Go Camp 2017 & Interview with In-seong

In the week before Christmas, a group of almost 40 people gathered in Kyllburg in the picturesque German Eifel, for 4 days of go-lessons and games. The organizer was Inseong Hwang, who schedules this Winter Camp every year in addition to running the Yunguseng Dojang (www.yunguseng.com), his successful internet go school.

The content of the Winter Camp is similar to one month of the online Yunguseng Dojang. Participants play five games against each other, every game is reviewed in detail by one of the teachers, and between games various topics are explained in lectures.  Read more...

Czech Woman Championship 2017

The penultimate event in the Czech tournament calendar for 2017, the Czech Women's Championship, took place at the same location as the Go Baron tournament - café Do Větru - in the first weekend of December (2. - 3. 12.). Czech Go Baron 2017

The most prestigious title tournament in Czech Go, the Go Baron, was held in the last weekend of November, 24-26. The top Czech players of today and of yesteryear were invited for the preliminary tournament. Only 12 players have the possibility to challenge for the Go Baron title. The tournament is generously sponsored by its founder and director Ing. Josef Němec. The prize pool is three gold ounces, i.e. more than 3500€, based on the current price of gold.  Read more...

New record set at the Russian Championship 2017!

The Russian Championship was held from 13 to 18 November 2017 in St. Petersburg, in the familiar Azimut Hotel that also hosted, amongst others, the EGC 2016. The favourite, Ilja Shikshin 1p, won the tournament, albeit not without difficulties.  Read more...
